Hanhaa Supply Chain Solutions

Port delays and massive lorry build-ups are becoming a monthly occurrence in the last year or so. Satellite images are now able to spot the huge queues of lorries trying to enter ports as companies are struggling to empty and offload shipping containers. Britain is just one of the many other countries facing a supply chain crisis, which is being fuelled by the world’s longest turnaround times.

Logistics, freight forwarders and 3PL companies are now facing the realization that supply chain visibility  is essential. This is where ParceLive comes in, offering customers real-time updates regarding their cargo shipment’s location, condition and security. In addition, they are able to integrate with blockchain and their own API.

Customers also have access to a range of custom alerts for up to 7 on-board sensors. Providing temperature updates, humidity reports, and exceptional alerts based on if your shipment has been dropped, tilted or opened.

Rising Lorry Queues and Delays

Port of Dover is one of the main ports in Britain seeing delays, where queues of over 7 km can be seen in satellite images (image above). Brexit is being said to be one of the main contributors in causing these large delays. With a courier saying, “It’s entirely Brexit – you can’t blame it on anything else but Brexit.”

With Britain’s venture into Brexit only just getting started, it’s safe to say that these delays are going to be an ongoing issue for the foreseeable future. One of the truckers even went ahead and clarified that, “There’s been a 17 mile HGV queue at Dover almost every day since Jan 1st.”

Chinese Omicron Delays and Future Worries

In addition to the issues regarding Brexit, there comes the problems facing the new Omicron outbreak and future delays in China. With the Winter Olympics fast approaching, there is a large concern that the high transmissibility of Omicron could cause a disruption to shipping.

A Senior executive at a major shipping line said, “We are very much at a tipping point. If [Omicron] manages to take off in China, even in a small way, then there is the potential for very significant disruption to supply chains. It does not take much imagination to see what the effect of large-scale shutdowns of factories, transport networks and ports would be. The system is already under stress.”

Supply chains are at a very vulnerable state with the port delays causing even more lorry disruptions and Chinese ports on the verge of having to shut down or further delay shipments. This means that supply chain visibility has become even more essential for all 3PL, freight forwarder and Logistics companies.
